In 1970, Jacques Gonnet began his career as a philosophy teacher at the French Lycée in Los Angeles. Three years later, he became involved with the National Centre for Educational Documentation (CNDP) and became head of the external relations department. From 1976 to 1978, he produced the television program "Live with the Press" as part of the School Radio and Television service. Every two weeks, high school students interviewed the editors-in-chief of newspapers live on air. Later, he became director of the "Experiences. Testimonies. Education E3" collection. His career took a definitive institutional turn in 1982 when he created and directed the Centre for Media and Information Literacy (CLEMI) within the Ministry of National Education. He continued this activity until 2004, while simultaneously holding a professorship in Information and Communication Sciences at Sorbonne Nouvelle University - Paris 3 (from 1993). At the same time, he created and directed the Centre for Research on Media Education (CREDAM), which notably publishes the journal Les Cahiers du CREDAM, a leading scientific journal in education in France.  Jacques Gonnet is now retired but remains close to networks that promote media literacy within the national education system. He notably introduced the symposium on the 30th anniversary of CLEMI inOctober 2013.
